Medical Sciences is located on the main campus of Indiana University in the city of Bloomington.  The curriculum  is designed to provide medical students with an excellent foundation in the basic sciences and involves extensive clinical integration at Bloomington Hospital.  The curricular strengths and unique opportunities provided to Medical Sciences students are highlighted below.

Unique Opportunities

  • International Programs: Students are encouraged to experience medical care in a developing country and are provided financial assistance
  • Scholarships: Medical Sciences has a number of scholarships that are awarded to students on the basis of academic performance and need
  • Associate Instructor Positions: Medical Sciences offers Associate Instructorships to second year medical students.  These AI's serve as teaching assistants in both the undergraduate and medical laboratory course and provide medical students with both financial support and an excellent opportunity to develop their teaching and interpersonal skills
  • Summer Research:  During the summer following the freshman year, students can participate in a ten-week NIH-funded research program sponsored by the IU School of Medicine in which they undertake a research project in the laboratory of a Bloomington campus faculty member
  • M.D./Ph.D. Programs:  Medical Sciences offers the opportunity to pursue graduate studies leading to the combined M.D./Ph.D. degree.  The program leading to the M.D. degree is administered by the School of Medicine and the Ph.D. degree program is offered by the specific department.  A coordinated flexible schedule provides a basis for advanced study and research in a specific field
